John Fitzgerald Young

John Fitzgerald Young was appointed to the Board of Directors of CBC/Radio-Canada on September 10, 2009, for a five-year term.
Mr. Young is the Dean of the College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences at the University of Northern British Columbia and a Senior Fellow at the International Center for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor of Political Science (1997-2004), and later the Chair of Political Science (2004-2008) at the University of Northern British Columbia. Mr. Young has also been a Visiting Research Fellow at the Slavic Research Centre at Hokkaido University and a Visiting Professor at Brigham Young University. He began his academic career as a lecturer at the University of Alberta and the University of Northern British Columbia. In addition to that, Mr. Young was the Mission President of the Russia Moscow Mission founded by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (2001-2004).
Mr. Young holds a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Toronto (1997), as well as a Master of Arts degree from the Institute of Soviet and East European Studies at Carleton University (1989). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Slavic Studies from the University of Alberta (1987), and a certificate in Russian language training from the Pushkin Pedagogical Institute in Moscow (1988).
During his career, Mr. Young has been presented with several scholarships, grants and awards.
