We are quite advanced in how we design space, engage employees and how we focus on designing a collaborative space.”

How does your team make a difference?

I am the Head of Real Estate Solutions for CBC/Radio-Canada with a  fairly small team of 23 people spread across Montreal and Toronto. We believe that space and facilities can be an important contributor to employee engagement. We do everything from negotiating rates on space to designing the overall look and feel of each unique space. We ensure everyone who works for the corporation is in a well-planned, comfortable, environmentally sound space.

Why are you a great manager to work for?

I want everyone to be on board with executing a well-thought out plan. I always ask ‘Why?’ and ‘When?’ so we aren’t flying by the seat of our pants. I care about the experience people have in the space and what they want out of it. It is an asset that needs to be protected. If people care about their space and are comfortable then they are more productive for the company. I don’t like lack of direction and that trickles down.

What do you look for in team members?

Field expertise. Relatability. Empathy. Collaboration. You may be working on a project autonomously but you need to care about the people who will be working in and interacting with the space.
